Wild Pink Tour, San Fermin Solo Shows, and Reese Witherspoon as Melanie Smooter
the actual lyrics to “Send Me On My Way” by Rusted Root
Hello/howdy/hi from me and the suitcase I’ve been living out of. Yeehaw.
It’s been a nice few months. We toured all over the country playing BDJ songs with Runnner and Slaughter Beach, Dog. We set a record for tambourine players on stage. I spent a lot of time in a van with my bandmates, learning what we believe are the actual lyrics to “Send Me On My Way” by Rusted Root. We drove through sand storms, high winds, and blizzards together. Extreme weather is all around us and the irony of guzzling gas to get to the gig is not lost on me.
I also spent a lot of time driving alone. There were some long days with just me in the driver seat, hauling our gear to and from Austin, listening to Maria Bamford’s audio book memoir, laughing and crying, singing and silent because life be like that. I was thankful for the company.
I had a brief stint in Utah with Covid. An unfortunate amount of time was spent with full body chills/aches, a fever, and romantic comedies. It wasn’t all bad. My airbnb host brought me stew and I finally watched season 1 of Fargo. I really loved billy bob’s fringe. However, I was pretty desperate for the warm and fuzzies, so I thought I might try my luck with Reese Witherspoon’s 2002 romp called Sweet Home Alabama. It was a little too “confederate-y” for my taste. I also did not enjoy the full make out scene in a pet cemetery, as well as her outing her friend at a bar and like half-ass apologizing about it! I’ll stick to the music rather than the film - and I mean Caroline Says' SHA.
All this time alone has taught me to be a little more patient and loving with myself, even when I’d rather wallow. I’ve come to the conclusion that I should push myself a little more in ways that make me uncomfortable. Groaning at a TV was good practice.
In that spirit I plan to perform a few SOLO shows later this year - opening for San Fermin during our beloved month of June. (They just put out an amazing new record!). It should be weird and fun. We’ll also have a full band performance in Austin, on June 11th at the Parish. I love my bandmates very much and feel very grateful for their musicianship and friendship!!!
We’ll also be floating around the Midwest later this month with Wild Pink! When a tour route takes you up to a Great Lake and back down to Waco, do you have any other choice but to say “Um… Absolutely, yes!”?? Plus, I don’t have to drive alone for ANY of it. And remember that WILD PINK is on the bill every night!! Sinai Vessel will be opening a run of shows as well <3. It’ll be a good time. See you out there.
You know what they say about the young.
Sincerely,
L.C. Skynyrd
