Hey/hi/howdy from the guest room of a friends house (I am still living out of a suitcase)!
⋆✰ 𝓙𝓪𝔃𝔃𝔂 ★ A new film by Morrisa Maltz (The Unknown Country) that I worked on has been picked to premiere as an Official selection at Tribeca 2024!
What an incredible honor to have been pulled further into The Unknown Country universe and help edit this film that has been so many years in the making! It’s like a spiritual sequel, with Lily Gladstone, Raymond Lee, and Richard Ray Whitman all returning to their roles in support of the next generation’s stars Jasmine Bearkiller Shangreaux and Syriah Foohead Means. I can’t wait for people to see it and watch these darling children navigate adolescence, in all the real and imagined ways that made me laugh and tear up.
Outside of my remote editing sessions (between tours/states/countries) I had the privilege of working in South Dakota for a week with Morrisa. One of my first days there was spent eating an enormous amount of food including delicious fry bread made by Jazzy’s grandmother. I felt very lucky to be there. Not just for the mouth watering bounty, but for the pleasure of talking with the family and getting to know them. It was brief, but powerful to see what I knew from afar already be real and in front of me. I guess that’s just the life of an editor. (I’M A FREAK).
I felt so incredibly overwhelmed by all the creative endeavors I was after. I was even listening to the final masters of Bad Dream Jaguar while starting to dive into the edit. We all know the story of being a modern day independent musician. And even though I was excited for the album (Alexis Marsh sax solos were enough to make me cry for joy), I was nervous about it. That trip sparked something in me to keep going.
Thank you to Morrisa and Vanara for having me in the fold. Especially VT who let me co-edit this puppy. Y’all are legends. 🥂
ALSO, special shout out to Alexis Marsh for composing a beautiful score for this film!! THAT LADY IS TOO MUCH Y’ALL.

PPS - Did y’all know Sun June first formed in the bowels of a movie office? Yes, it’s all thanks to the wonderful world of post production that we are even a band! Only one of us still uses it as a means to live off of. It’s full of ups and downs, but so is anything worth doing. Right?… RIGHT? I recently met up with some editor pals who also worked in this office with me and after 2 full hours of talking about nothing but movies, I made the bold statement that “film is the lowest form of art” and never have I ever felt so much like a jackass. To be clear, I think film rules. I just feel like we need to find new topics of discussion every now and again. Ya know what I mean? And let’s be real, AI generated art is probably bottom of the barrel. BUT HEY, as long as you are using your imagination WHO THE HELL CARES. GO OFF homie.
k bye for now.
